Water was nearly perfect at this float level. Had six kayaks and one canoe. Dragged in just a few places and most of the low areas were easy to read. It would seem a three inch drop in the water level would make for a float that would take more care getting through the low spots. Overall, a great day and a pretty float. Did not see another boat on the river.Water was nearly perfect at this float level. Had six kayaks and one canoe. Dragged in just a few places and most of the low areas were easy to read. On the river at 0830 hours and floated about 7.5 miles to Wyoming Lane (USFS) Primitive Access located on river left. We were off the river by 1630 hours (about 1 mile/hour). Even with the limited rainfall over the past couple months, we only had to walk one riffle and had to navigate one logjam in this stretch. The fishing was on and off all day long, with fish beginning to stack together for the fall and winter ahead. Dad and I simultaneously hooked into 17+ inch smallies in the same deep hole, but his jumped at the yak and got away while my fish stuck the landing into the net. Based on our observation, the smallie that dad lost would have pushed 19 inches easily and 3+ pounds. We ended up catching multiple rock bass over nine inches as well and probably caught over 50 rock bass in this stretch, which slightly edged out the smallie total for the day. We likely caught about 8-9 smallies over 15 inches with my 17.25" smallie that weighed 2.5 pounds being the largest. The views of the bluffs and pine trees above the river only added to the wonderful experience. Dad said that he will be back to redeem himself for not cashing in on his trophy smallmouth opportunity. This definitely a river that we have fallen in love with.On the river at 0830 hours and floated about 7.5 miles to Wyoming Lane (USFS) Primitive Access located on river left.
