2021-05-08	CR 437	Brownbranch	Total trip distance: 4.5 miles4.5	High	679	4.60	Great	LMB RB RSF SMB Barton, Adam Barton, Scott We had the creek to ourselves on a Saturday due to rain falling in the morning. The water was up and flowing a little too fast for adequate fishing conditions, but we still caught tons of rock bass and smallmouth. There were a couple of tricky portages around some trees and rapids, but overall it turned into a beautiful afternoon on the water. I would recommend the area below Brownbranch for better fishing. There is no access at MO 76 despite the guidebook information. We put in at Jackson Hollow instead. The takeout is now gated and the landowner there is not friendly to paddlers (as we were told by some locals). USGS Gauge Data: Bradleyville (07054080) Discharge: 629 Height: 4.43 Source: Edmond

It was relatively clear but still murky. At about 2/3 and 3/4, there were at least three tree obstacles that would have blocked us at a lower water level. Fortunately, there is an outfitter at Brownbranch that does some work clearing the river. USGS Gauge Data: Bradleyville (07054080) Discharge: 532 Height: 4.01 Source: Edmond
2020-04-21	Bradleyville	Sam Day Road	Total trip distance: 4.5 miles4.5	Good	511	3.81	None	None Bartlett, Renee Jones, Marianne Van Someren, Andrea Van Someren, Tom This is the float that will forever be known as the "Fuck the Beaver" float. It begins with a huge sinkhole full of mud near the put in requiring a portage of 50 yards or so to the water. (Note: walking thru the sinkhole may result in the loss of your shoes.) Just downriver from the put in, a downed tree makes a tricky obstacle. We ended up with two boats tipped over. Otherwise, this was a quick, pretty stretch of river with only one or two other minor obstacles, the last of which claimed my hat, sunglasses and lawn chair. Fishing is unknown since my new birthday pole was broken in 3 pieces on this float. This section was fairly busy with multiple groups of floaters. However, we did find a nice shaded gravel bar for a wonderful lunch. In addition, there were lots of long, low water level stretches that did not require portage at this level but that might make this section less than ideal at a lower level. No obstructions in the river, either. While the number of fish we caught placed us in the "fair" region we all judged the fishing as "poor". Note too: Beaver Creek Canoe Rental is charging floaters a $10 per boat "Access fee" to put in there. USGS Gauge Data: Bradleyville (07054080) Discharge: 496 Height: 3.96 Source: Van Someren

2022-09-04	Sam Day Road	Hoot Owl Hollow (A)	Total trip distance: 11.4 miles7.7	Good	368	3.86	None	None Edmond, Alex Edmond, Brian Edmond, Joseph Edmond, Julian This was an overnight trip with just the four of us. Water levels looked good for Beaver Creek and it was close so we decided to give it a try (the Northfork, our original destination, was flooding with the recent rain events). I was surprised to see the water murky, almost muddy. The shuttle to Long Creek Road was more than an hour as it was not direct. We stopped for an extended period at Brushy Creek which was a cool, clear stream that mixed with the muddy waters of Beaver Creek. We ate lunch and made our way to the camp site just above Hoot Owl Hollow. Dinner was burgers, mac and cheese, broccoli / sugar snap peas / mushrooms, and s'mores for dessert. Although the night was clear and fairly warm, we were tired and didn't stay up late. The water level on this day was not that high despite the murkiness of the water. It didn't warrant a "High" rating although it was really running down at Long Creek. I think we managed to get on the river as it was dropping rapidly (see the difference in water level between the two days). Alex and I ran the shuttle, Joseph and Julian stayed behind. 2025-06-20	Brownbranch	Bradleyville	Total trip distance: 7.9 miles7.9	Low	359	3.37	Great	LSF RB SMB Barton, Adam Barton, Scott On the water at 0815 and rolled into Bradleyville at about 1700. We stayed the night at the campground in Brownbranch after floating above the campground the day before, so there was no additional charge for us to access the creek. This section is noticeably wider and shallower in places after the May 2025 flood than it was last year when we floated in June. In many places along this stretch, there are dead trees and debris caked to the sides of the creek channel and in the riparian zones. Also, I lost count of the portages that are currently required to navigate this section due to the strainers and trees that are blocking the main creek channel. In my humble assessment, most of the quality smallmouth and Ozark bass habitat that was once prevalent in this section has been significantly altered or reduced to gravel fill. While a few quality fishing holes can be found on this stretch, I would prefer to float in the stretch above Brownbranch given the current state of the creek. We managed to grind out a solid day of fishing nonetheless, with dad catching our largest smallmouth of the trip (16.5”) and a plethora of 12” + smallmouth to go with it. The gravel mining operation above Bradleyville continues to alter the channel significantly, but our most productive hole of the day was right above the gravel mine. In that one hole, which spans about a 1/4 mile, we caught 10 smallmouth over 13” along with Dad's PB smallie of the trip (16.5"). Finally, the takeout at Bradleyville continues to degrade with each flood, so I am unsure how much longer it will serve as viable access to the creek. Also, the access road at the campground in Brownbranch is on its last leg as well, so I will be curious to see how the access issues on Beaver Creek are resolved after the next major flood event, which seems to happen annually anymore. 2016-07-16	Brownbranch	Bradleyville	Total trip distance: 7.9 miles7.9	Good	276	3.15	Excellent	LSF GSF LMB SMB RB Amburn, Andrea Amburn, Matt Dudenhoeffer, Todd Edmond, Brian Eth, Joe Van Someren, Tom This was an excellent float trip. The water was nearly perfect (a little bit higher would have been nice but it was fantastic just like this). Joe caught more than 50 fish. I caught nearly 30 or more. Even when we didn't catch anything, we could feel fish hitting the lure. USGS Gauge Data: Bradleyville (07054080) Discharge: 276 Height: 3.15 Source: Edmond

Water levels were great. No major obstacles. Absolutely no crowds, didn't see another group all day. Fishing was fair. Was literally "spanked" by a fish. 2024-06-19	Brownbranch	Bradleyville	Total trip distance: 7.9 miles7.9	Good	241	3.65	Excellent	GSF KSB LMB LSF RB SMB Barton, Adam Barton, Scott On the river at 0800 and off at 1730 with sunny skies and a high of 88 degrees. The cost to put in at Brownbranch is about $10, so budget accordingly. The water level was ideal for fishing and floating. There was a slight stain to the water, which was in part to the creek still coming down from a flood the week prior. A few new trees were down in the water from the recent flood, which made a few technical spots to paddle through. Also, if the water level is any lower than this, there are many riffles that would need to be waded, with slick rocks as a hazard. The final riffle into Bradleyville is a real doozy, so be careful when making that last descent. Most fish were caught using finesse patterns, targeting structure found in the deeper and shaded areas of the creek channel. We caught mostly 10"-12" smallies with a few over 14" and lots of Ozark bass. Overall between Dad and myself, we caught over 100 fish on the day. One of the best fishing floats in Ozarks. I wouldn't want to float this river any lower than this, except as a good fishing trip. USGS Gauge Data: Bradleyville (07054080) Discharge: 210 Height: 2.63 Source: Edmond
2022-09-05	Hoot Owl Hollow (A)	Long Creek Road	Total trip distance: 11.4 miles3.7	Good	169	3.43	None	None Edmond, Alex Edmond, Brian Edmond, Joseph Edmond, Julian We packed up camp and left the gravel bar shortly before 1000 hours after a breakfast of sausage / egg / cheese English muffin sandwiches and chocolate chip muffins. We were running low on water so I thawed the frozen water bottles I had in the cooler. It worked fine since we had eaten most of the food that needed refrigeration and the freezer packs were holding out. The river water had cleared considerably but was still flowing well. Because the river ended up in several braided channels, we did have some difficulty with dragging at riffles in a few places. There were also some dangerous areas, including a riffle that would have been impossible to navigate successfully in even a kayak. We avoided these and nobody tipped over although I scraped past a root wad and ended up with a minor contusion on the top of my head and lost my paddle in the process. Luckily, Alex retrieved it for me. We stopped in a few places to get out and explore and swim. We were at the takeout by 1300 hours. Since everyone had to fit in the car, we packed the gear in an upright canoe and repacked at the put-in to have a good trip home. We arrived at home by 1700 hours after a stop at Andy's on South Campbell. USGS Gauge Data: Bradleyville (07054080) Discharge: 169 Height: 3.43 Source: Edmond
